Restoring Hope Through Education: Mohammad Nabi’s Journey
One of the most valuable gifts we can offer a child is the gift of education. More than just a tool for learning, education is a path to dignity, confidence, and a better future. Among all forms of learning, a value-based religious education plays a vital role in shaping a child’s character and faith. Unfortunately, for many children living in vulnerable and displaced conditions, even this basic right remains out of reach.

Mohammad Nabi’s story is a moving example of this reality. He lost his father when he was just three years old. His mother, suddenly widowed and responsible for raising three children alone, faced immense challenges. With no steady source of income and no support system, she was forced to leave their homeland of Myanmar, seeking safety and survival for her children. Life in a new land was far from easy. They had to depend on the kindness of strangers and occasional aid for food, clothing, and shelter.
Nabi remembers his childhood as a time filled with uncertainty and fear. “Often, my mother would emotionally collapse,” he recalls. “Her health started to decline because she carried all the burden alone. There was no one to look after our needs.” It was a difficult phase—one where education and dreams seemed like a distant luxury.

But Mohammad Nabi proved to be a bright and resilient child. Despite his hardships, he never lost his curiosity and eagerness to learn. When he was nine years old, his life began to change. Shaagird Foundation offered him a Hafiz Sponsorship—a program that supports children in their journey to memorizing the Quran while also pursuing basic formal education.
For a child like Nabi, this sponsorship was more than just financial aid—it was a lifeline. It covered his educational fees, learning materials, clothing, and even basic medical care. For the first time in years, Nabi felt secure. He enrolled in a Quran memorization course while also attending primary school to catch up on subjects like language, math, and science. The gap in his education was significant, but his determination and natural intelligence helped him quickly rise to the top of his class.

Today, Nabi is not only thriving in his studies but also dreaming bigger. He hopes to continue his journey and pursue full-time Islamic scholarship. He wishes to dedicate his life to knowledge and service, inspired by the transformative power education has had on him.
The support he received has restored his confidence, brightened his outlook, and given him a purpose. From a lost and grieving child, he has grown into a young student full of hope and direction.
Mohammad Nabi’s story reflects what so many children like him need—a chance. With consistent support and care, they can overcome trauma, rediscover joy, and build meaningful futures. Through initiatives like the Hafiz Sponsorship Program, Shaagird Foundation continues to bring light into the lives of children who were once surrounded by darkness. Education changes lives—and Nabi is living proof.
