Ten-year-old Obaid-ur-Rahman is a shining example of determination and gratitude, even in the face of life’s greatest challenges. Living with his father and two brothers, Obaid’s early life was shaped by hardship. His father, a humble fruit vendor, struggled every day to meet the family’s basic needs. The dream of providing a good education for his sons seemed distant and nearly impossible given their financial struggles. Despite this, Obaid and his brothers were full of potential and had a strong desire to learn.
Obaid’s remarkable achievement in becoming a Hafiz inspired the family to believe that something better could still be possible for Obaid. One day, their father learned about the Shaagird Foundation’s Hafiz Sponsorship Program through one of the trainees enrolled in the initiative. It offered a ray of hope at a time when despair had nearly taken over. Recognizing the opportunity, he enrolled Obaid in the learning center supported by the Foundation.
For Obaid, joining the program was a turning point in his life. What he expected to be simply a path to memorizing the Quran turned out to be much more. The program provided him with not just education but also shelter, nutritious meals, clean clothing, and a supportive, nurturing environment. For the first time, Obaid had the chance to grow in a space that prioritized both his spiritual and academic development.
“I never imagined I would get all of this,” Obaid says with a shy smile. “I thought I would just learn the Quran. But I also received love, care, and an education that opened up a whole new world for me.”
Today, Obaid is not only on the path to becoming a Hafiz but is also excelling in his primary school studies. His dedication, intelligence, and determination have impressed everyone around him. Teachers describe him as a focused and respectful student with a strong will to succeed. Even at his young age, he speaks passionately about his goals and his desire to support his family in the future.
“The Hafiz Sponsorship Program became a ray of hope that transformed my life,” says Obaid. His dream is to take care of his father and brothers, to make sure they live with dignity and comfort. It’s a powerful vision coming from a ten-year-old, but one that perfectly reflects the strength and maturity born out of hardship.
Obaid expresses his deepest gratitude to those who made this journey possible. “I am thankful to the generous donors who supported me in memorizing the Quran,” he says. His heartfelt words are a reminder of how acts of kindness and charity can change lives in the most meaningful ways.
