The story of Khushi is not an ordinary one, her story encompasses emotions that no words can ever explain. Khushi is a young gullible kid who lost her dearest father to the Delhi Pogrom, 2020, when she was just eight years old.
Her father, Firoz, was heartlessly strangled with the smoke of fire and burnt alive. The smoke not only burnt Firoz but also her entire psychological self. The brutal incident shook her soul to the core.She was devastated and lost somewhere between her young age and the horrific death of her father.
When girls of her age used to play hide and seek, Khushi hid from the reality of her life and struggled to run away from the thoughts of her mind.
She could not understand how her mind eroded the thoughts of innocence and became equipped with melancholy.
Gradually, she got completely lost, not uttering a word for the entire day. Her small home window became her favourite spot to find tranquillity.
Her worried mother noticed a change in her persona, and on one fortunate day, she decided to take her out of her home, away from her window. The day changed the entire life of Khushi once again, but this time, on a positive note.
While wandering around the dark- burnt lanes of Mustafabad, her mother found hope in a smile. She saw a yellow tent with people radiating rays of optimism. On getting closer, she learnt it was a camp organised by the Shaagird’ under Miles2Smile Foundation, a project solely designed to enroll young kids like her Khushi and educate them throughout.
Her mother hurriedly took the forms that were being distributed, and she didn’t waste a second in filling out them, as a result of which her Khushi got enrolled in ‘Sunrise Public School.’ Shaagird sponsored her enrollment and education.
Khushi’s life after Shaagird
After meeting Shaagird and getting in touch with Sunrise Public School, Khushi is healing from the scars she doesn’t even deserve. She studies with her peer group and plays with them during her lunch break.
She learns new words of English every day and explores Science and Computers. Solving tricky Mathematical problems has become her hobby.
Khushi’s brothers Faiz and Rehaan are also the students of the same school, they both have completed their grade 8 with the support of Shaagird, and are getting ready to continue their studies further in their field of interest.
Her mother who finds coolness in the eyes of her children is content. She runs a ‘Dupatta Stitching Unit’ with the decent help of Shaagird and Miles2Smile. She has 15 people employed at the unit.
The educators at SunrisePublic School are kind enough to make her feel loved and help her whenever she needs them. Khushi has found her ‘Khushi’ of life again.
